still knitting? who helped

Hi
The grand total as of yesterday was 700ft. I have had a few people contact me and say they have some knitting so the total will go up I will keep blogging till the last scarf comes in and goes out. I'd like to say a really big thank you to all.

I have tried to include everyone if I have missed anyone let me know and I will add your name to my list.
Isobel and I could not have done this without you. It was everyones hard work that achieved this.
we reached an amazing length in a short time and we should all be proud of ourselves.
Isobel and I get  assessed on this project by our tutor in December. We will let you know. we are hoping to get an amazing mark and that is down to you all so thank you. I have made some lovely friends and met some lovely people during this project. I was touched by everyone's dedication and kindness. I really enjoyed leading the project and hope one day to do another project.
If anyone would like some of the leftover wool I can share it out. Mainly blues, greens, browns and purples. mostly double knit and textured. some odd balls etc.
If anyone has any more knitting it can still be added to the total. I shall collect for as long as it comes in. one charity is taking some in July. The rest will go in the winter. So I am storing them safely.
I have yet to separate them all but we think there must be about 140/150 scarves. that's really good.

Sorry Folks Rained off

Due to Bournemouth weather we have been rained off today.
We arrived to set up but the heaven's opened so we had to pack up and go home. A real shame.
 I also knitted for Flags on the shore who are exhibiting along the west cliff 11-6pm.
Very miserable day for an exhibition. Shame I had made some corsets and jackets for the trees.

I am now going to help a fellow artist Emma make some butterflies for a project in Portland.
They need to be small and blue. If anyone else would like to help you can contact me. Each butterfly is to represent a child on portland.

I have to write an essay over the summer holidays for my degree and compile a presentation.
I will now start thinking about my next knitted project.
I would love to knit a Citroen 2cv6.
I would also love to knit across the channel.
I will blog when we donate the scarves and contact the Evening Echo. Salvation army in winton are having some and the homeless in Bournemouth.
I have some wool people donated that is left over so if anyone wants any contact me and we can arrange collection.

Sunday 6th May

We had special help today

We've had a busy day today in the Gardens. We even had some sunshine this afternoon which made such a difference. There were lots of visitors and  a band marching through gave the day a  nice holiday feel. We had lots of people giving us their help. We decided to attach the pom poms that people had made for us to the knitted stream that's in the water.  One young lady gave us particular help. Thank you! The stream now looks a lot more colourful, and Angel was knitting again from the bridge so the stream could be seen more clearly.

We  had some help with the knitting from passers-by who wanted to join in and lovely Tamsin learnt a new skill !


 Thanks to everyone who has given us their help so far. The stream is now 700 feet long, including the piece in the water.

Saturday 5th May 2012

We arrived and it was a bit cold and damp. Looked like rain. So we displayed the stream as pods again today
I took the opportunity to feed the squirrels and perform my knitting the stream piece.

The stream in the stream has grown and is long and tatty and very holey. It is also heavy and where it has dragged the bed of the river it has green slimey bits on it and it doesn't smell too good either.
We are back at 10.ooam tomorrow  weather permitting we will roll the stream out for all to see.
We still want knitted pieces and stories we are still trying to make the 3/4 of a mile. We have new people joining the crusade daily. we are at  640ft. Thank you to all who have helped us get this far. Thank you to all those posting parcels to us. we are exhibiting the stream till the 7th May.
we will keep measuring and donate to the homeless as lovely scarves. We will let you know who is going to have the scarves and when.

Cold Friday

Brrr!! very cold today but dry all the same
 we ran the stream down between the bridges today we made it quite easily. 630ft of knitting.

Simply knitting Magazine  want to feature us so we are going to send them some photos and tell them what we are doing.We will tell you what edition. We are hoping to lay the stream out on Sunday and Monday also at 1pm. Please keep knitting for us we still have a few days left. I am  still receiving parcels. Thank you to everyone who has helped us achieve the length so far we could not have done it without you. We also  had an e mail from Guinness Book of records stating that we are not classed as a stream but a long scarf. The longest scarf is 34 miles long and took 3 years to achieve. so sadly we won't be breaking any records. We will not let this disappoint  us We have all worked very Hard and I shall make sure everyone gets the recognition they deserve.

Rained off at Lunch time

Started out a bit damp today. We set up as  knitted rolls. they look interesting rather like pods.
We had a few donated knitted pieces handed to us today. Thank you to all who braved the weather.

I knitted into the stream for a few hours then the heaven's opened. The stinky Stream as we have now named it is disintegrating it is as if the stream is eating it. The appearance of it has changed both in colour and in shape. It has some interesting holes where it gets snagged on the stream bed. It smells rotten too.
I am still receiving parcels each one is exciting . Thank you .
The stream was 610.5ft this morning but we have had some more donations in  so I am guessing it's probably more like 630ft .
We are rolling it through the gardens on Sunday and Monday so you can all see it's length. We have achieved a massive length in such a short time and we are still growing . we still could reach our target.

Wednesday

A good day for us weather-wise. No rain and this afternoon was lovely and sunny. We had lots of interest again and some interesting comments.   Fiona kindly brought us another great donation of knitting and also brought her helper with her - well, I think that's what he was doing. He certainly made my day!

We found the short  piece of  knitted stream that is in the water is sinking fast now, and just sits on the bottom at the side of the stream, so Angel sat and knitted on the other bank today so it was easier to see.  As the stream is so long now, at 609 feet, we would really like to see it spread alongside the stream. Unfortunately we're not allowed to do this unless we have marshalls at very regular intervals, so on Sunday we're hoping to get lots of people together to help us. If you're free at about 1pm on Sunday - come along!

What a gorgeous day?
Lots of interest in the project. More people joining our crusade daily. I am being promised knitting from all over the place. I collected some knitting from Moordown Community Centre Craft Club.
A Big Thank you to you all and all at Coles Millers who knitted for us and A Giant Thank you to The Epiphany school.

I was speechless when I was handed a Roll of stream From Epiphany. You must have all worked really hard . Isobel and I are so grateful and pleased that you all wanted to help you have made the stream grow even longer Thank you  and also to everybody that brought knitting to the gardens today. Thank you also to the kind lady in Swanage who sent me a package with stream and gorgeous flowers in. All donations  have now taken us to a grand total length of 560ft wow!! please visit us we are open daily until the 7th may we open at 10am and close at 4pm. Though we can collect stream until5pm.

The stream takes a long time to roll up so if you want to see it at it's best try and make it before 3.15pm
as each roll takes a long time to roll up and each day we have more of them.
If it is damp or raining hard we will not  be able to display as it will get wet.
Angel performs her knitting into the stream most of the day and if you want a go you can try.
Knitting in the stream is an experience not to be missed. The knitting is heavy and the current pulls you.
Angel has a piece which is separate to the stream but the length has been included in the project.
Please visit us and keep the  Knitting coming in. The scarves will do a lot of good and keep a lot of homeless people warm this winter. Don't forget our Guinness book of records attempt as well the longest knitted stream in the world. Staff permitting we want to roll the stream down the stream path to see how much length we have in comparison to the actual stream we are hoping to do this on Bank Holiday Monday.
