Today we have reached 200ft.  I did a visit to the gardens and measured 200ft from the bridge in a straight line  see picture1.

This section is approx 430ft so we are nearly half way
our knitting station will be  based along this section of stream during the exhibition.

If we get the full 3/4 of a mile we can start the stream in an earlier section. But as it stands at the moment realistically we will fill this section of path alongside the river.
We have more helpers Moordown community centre craft club have agreed to help us. A Big Thank You to you all. Thank you to everyone who is participating in this project we are really grateful for your help.

I have more donations to sew on and the stream keeps growing. Please please we want your comments on the project as well as your knitted/ crocheted pieces. . We value your thoughts, contributions. etc.

Hi  Today has been a good day I have received a lot of donated pieces. I have attached some photos. I will measure up tomorrow. The stream has grown so much .I have lots of knitters/crocheters promising pieces. The 3/4 of a mile looks promising at the moment. The Gateway club are really enthusiastic about the stream and I have more pompoms, ties and knitting from them a big Thank You to you all.Knitters From Freegle and Gumtree are also working really hard Thank you to everyone. I am getting more excited about the project each day and it is nice to know others are too. I am getting lots of encouraging e mails and positive feedback.
We love to hear what you think of the project.
We will have a collection box in Bournemouth Lower Gardens 28th April-7th May for knitted /crochet pieces. Available during exhibition opening times 10am-5pm. will also be out on opening night
27th April 6pm-8pm.
We are running workshops for knitting, loom knitting, pompoms, finger knitting etc. The dates/Times will be as follows;

27th April 6.30pm-8pm
28th April. 11.00am-1pm  3pm-4pm
3oth April 11.00am-1pm

4th May 11am-1pm  2pm-4pm
5th May 11am-1pm 2pm-5pm

Wool and needles will be provided.

Update 28th march

Hi Just a brief reminder that the project is part of the "Benchmark" Exhibition in Bournemouth lower gardens. Information Below. We would like you to come and visit our "Stream" and if possible donate your Knitted/ Crochet pieces in the donation box provided. The box will be available from the 27th April -7th May 2012 and will be situated adjacent to the Knitting station. We will be holding workshops on selected dates. I shall post these up tomorrow for all who are interested.


BENCHMARK - contemporary art exhibition

• Fine Art undergraduates from the Arts University College at Bournemouth are for the 10th year running, transforming Bournemouth Lower Gardens with a collection of innovative artworks inspired by the gardens themselves. Come along to the Private Viewing on 27th April 2012 from 6pm -8pm and After Party at 60 Million Postcards from 8pm onwards. Or combine the artworks with a relaxing walk through the gardens from: 28th April 2012 - 7th May 2012, 10am- 5pm

The stream is getting longer.
 I have sewn another  22 ft on today.
 Moordown Community Centre have kindly given us a large donation of wool and a kind lady from Freegle  also donated some wool.  A big thank you to you all.
I have put some photos of the work up so you can see your pieces as they are stitched on.
I am hoping to go down to the lower gardens this weekend to measure the stream so we can see how much it has grown. This will give us encouragement.

We can add these thoughts for you from the blog or you can handwrite them for us?

Another side to this work is the idea of the thoughts and memories of all those taking part adding invisible threads that run throughout the piece.  The action of knitting often leaves the mind free to wander - what are your thoughts while you knit? Maybe of garments you have made for your children or grandchildren, triggering memories of them, or indeed even a memory of your mother or grandmother knitting for you. Maybe you think of holidays or what you will have for your tea.   Whatever your thoughts are, we would like to give them a physical form to become part of the work.  If you can join us in Bournemouth Gardens, we will invite you to write your thoughts and attach them to the knitting.  If you won't be able to get there but you would like to take part, just let us know and we will add them for you.

update 22nd march

Hi knitters, crocheters, weavers .
  The stream has grown another 6ft. we have more pompoms and ties. Thank you to Gateway members in Winton.  Thank you, to Heathlands first school  craft club,who are finger knitting for us and thank you to The Epiphany school years 5 and 6 who are weaving squares for us. You can even hear the sound of knitting needles in the Epiphany school office. I never dreamt people would be so enthusiastic. It's great. We ran out of wool So I have introduced another colour Brown until we have new supplies from our sponsor. www.designeryarns.uk.com.

We have decided that The stream will be dried and divided into scarves for the homeless afterwards.
We would like sections to not exceed 6ft Please, this is a long scarf. Any that have been previously done will be retained as an exhibit. Photos will be on friday's blog.

The stream is growing another 11ft of donations and 5 pompoms from the Gateway Members. Everyone is becoming involved , there is river fever sweeping through Bournemouth. Two Local schools are joining the crusade and soon Bournemouth is going to have the longest stream it's ever seen. We welcome all  new knitters. Please please keep those knitted donations coming in? The stream at 88ft

Update The stream is growing fast. Have measured it this am and it totals 26 metres long approx 88ft. I still have two donations to sew to the stream . I have yet to measure them and have been promised a further 25ft. I am amazed at the different shades of green,blue and green blue mixes that are available and the array of different stitches. Fantastic everyone keep up the good work. Posted some flyers today targeting local schools, Day centres, Knitting groups, libraries and brownie/guide groups. Still trying to get more people to join the crusade.  I have also a few people being really creative and adding, flowers, leaves, pompoms. etc. I have been sent some pics. Keep sending the pics and I will post as many up as possible.

Had a really good day at Gateway everyone made me feel really welcome and they were all really up for helping to create the stream. Some members created pom pom balls in various shades of greens and blues whilst others Knitted and created plaits. lots of people wanted to get involved and that is what this project is all about for me. These lovely people had only met me today and they all put their hearts and souls into the project it was a hive of activity and I had a really enjoyable day. The stream is growing . But the stream needs to get longer so If anyone reading this blog wants to knit, crochet ,create pompom balls etc. I will be only to happy to give you some wool. Remember we are aiming for 3/4 of a mile. It may sound crackers but nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it. So come on dust of your knitting needles and get knitting.
